1992 Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade: Aladdin, Splash Mountain & Macy’s Magic

A 10th Anniversary Christmas Celebration

In 1992, Walt Disney World marked the 10th anniversary of its televised Christmas Day Parade, one of the most spectacular broadcasts to date. Joan Lunden and Regis Philbin returned as hosts. They are joined by Ed McMahon from Disney-MGM Studios, Miss America Leanza Cornett from EPCOT Center, and special guest John Davidson.

Aladdin Royal Caravan Premieres

The world television premiere of the Aladdin Royal Caravan parade debuted from Disney-MGM Studios. The parade brought characters from the latest animated film to life in a dynamic and colorful performance. The broadcast also featured a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film, with animators and producers offering insight into the magic behind the movie.

Disney-MGM Studios Spectacle

Ed McMahon highlighted several new offerings at Disney-MGM Studios.  Including a Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage show performance and a festive look at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons. These 21 massive balloons, transported from New York to Florida, created a magical New York street celebration on the MGM backlot.

Also featured was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action show and a tour through the growing MGM Studios lot, including sets and behind-the-scenes glimpses of Disney’s TV and film production.

Splash Mountain Grand Opening

John Davidson took viewers on a journey to the all-new Splash Mountain attraction at Magic Kingdom. The segment included a close-up of the mountain’s immersive storytelling, culminating in a classic hoedown to mark the attraction’s grand opening.

EPCOT and Global Highlights

Miss America Leanza Cornett hosted segments from EPCOT Center, showcasing international holiday traditions and performances from around World Showcase. At Disneyland, the special offered a behind-the-scenes preview of Mickey’s Toontown, including Roger Rabbit’s Cartoon Spin.

Special Appearances

Celebrity guests included Home Improvement stars Richard Karn and Earl Hindman. Disney characters from all corners of the parks made festive appearances throughout the celebration.

A Magical Conclusion

The 1992 Disney Christmas Parade blended cutting-edge entertainment, character magic, and global holiday cheer. From Aladdin’s grand debut to Macy’s balloons and Splash Mountain’s first Christmas, this 10th anniversary parade was a milestone.
