2001 Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade: 100 Years of Magic, Regis, Kelly, Mandy & More

The Parade Returns with Magic and Memories

“It all started with a Mouse, and the imagination of a man born 100 years ago—his name  Walt Disney. Now, as families like yours celebrate the most joyous day of the year, we invite you to a place devoted to joy, wonder, and 100 Years of Magic. After a year off, the Walt Disney World Very Merry Christmas Parade returned in 2001 with renewed energy, a classic format, and an all-new theme: celebrating “100 Years of Magic” for Walt Disney’s 100th birthday. Regis Philbin—hosting his 13th Christmas Parade—returns alongside Kelly Ripa and Mandy Moore. Wayne Brady joins them, bringing viewers behind the scenes and into the holiday spirit.

Five Parades Across Walt Disney World

The 2001 Disney Christmas Parade didn’t just return—it expanded. In celebration of the 100 Years of Magic campaign, viewers were treated to five different parades, each from a different Walt Disney World theme park.

To begin, viewers were treated to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Parade at Magic Kingdom. In addition, the newly debuted Share a Dream Come True Parade brought classic Disney stories to life. Meanwhile, Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade delivered vibrant cultural flair at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Meanwile, over at Epcot, the Tapestry of Dreams Parade showcased kinetic puppetry and futuristic imagination. Finally, Disney MGM Studios rolled out the star-studded Stars and Motorcars Parade, completing the magical lineup

Behind-the-Scenes Magic and Walt’s Legacy

Meanwhile, Wayne Brady explored the new One Man’s Dream exhibit at Disney MGM Studios, a tribute to Walt Disney’s life and legacy. The segment included interviews with Roy Disney and Marty Sklar.

After that, at Animal Kingdom, Wayne introduced the brand-new Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade. Parade Director Reed Jones explained that Mickey and his friends were on an expedition, with float styles inspired by cultures from around the globe.

Joe Rohde also reflected on how Animal Kingdom was designed to celebrate our love of animals—real, prehistoric, and even imaginary.

Over at Epcot, viewers got a first look at the Tapestry of Dreams Parade. John Haupt, Senior Creative Director, described how the puppetry and motion of over 120 characters symbolized Epcot’s unique balance of past and future.

Disney MGM Studios, the center of the 100 Years of Magic celebration, featured the new Stars and Motorcars Parade, bringing Disney characters down Hollywood Boulevard in custom vehicles.

Musical Performances and Holiday Stars

Throughout the show, musical guests delivered performances that spanned genres and generations. To start, Charlotte Church delivered a soaring Christmas classic. Next, Aaron Tippin shared a heartfelt country holiday tune. Meanwhile, City High brought smooth harmonies to the celebration. Following that, Baha Men kept energy high with a festive, island-inspired performance. Finally, Aaron Carter wrapped up the musical lineup with a lively pop performance perfect for younger viewers.

Disney Classics and Holiday Nostalgia

In conclusion, Classic Disney Christmas animation clips and holiday television specials from the Disney Archives were woven into the broadcast, celebrating the timeless wonder of Disney storytelling.

Behind the scenes, viewers also saw how Walt Disney World is transformed into a holiday wonderland—from garlands along Main Street to the Castle lights and beyond.
