A Peek Behind the Curtain at Disney California Adventure

Since opening in 2009, the Walt Disney Imagineering Blue Sky Cellar has offered fans a rare glimpse into the future of Disney California Adventure. As a preview center for new attractions, the space is filled with sketches, concept art, and 3D models. It is a behind-the-scenes look at how Disney artists, architects, and engineers develop the immersive worlds we enjoy in the parks.

Pixar Pier Reimagining on Display

In 2018, the exhibit inside Blue Sky Cellar received a major update focused on transforming Paradise Pier into  Inspired by the charm of a California seaside boardwalk, this new land would bring Pixar favorites to life in a colorful, imaginative way.

Visitors were treated to a detailed scale model of Pixar Pier, showcasing how classic attractions like California Screamin’ were being reimagined into the Incredicoaster. Panels and interactive displays explained how Imagineers developed the ride’s new storyline, featuring the Parr family on a high-speed chase to catch Jack-Jack.

Imagineering in Action

One of the exhibit’s highlights was a behind-the-scenes video featuring the Imagineers. They shared insights into the development process, from early sketches to final installation. Guests could see how technologies and storytelling techniques combined to reinvent a beloved park area.

From concept to coaster, the Blue Sky Cellar Pixar Pier exhibit showed guests the creative spark and technical brilliance behind Disney’s attraction updates.
