On December 15, 1954, Walt Disney’s television series “Disneyland” presented “Davy Crockett’s” Indian Fighter”. Starring Fess Parker as Davy Crockett and Buddy Ebsen as George Russel. That episode was the first of a three-part mini-series that attracted 40 million television viewers, and a Davy Crockett merchandise bonanza including the imitation coonskin cap, a must for all elementary school-age kids.
