His most celebrated achievement came with Mary Poppins (1964), where his stunning visuals earned him an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
Harrison Ellenshaw: Expanding the Legacy
Following in his father’s footsteps, Harrison Ellenshaw initially worked at Walt Disney Studios before joining Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). While at ILM, he contributed to some of the most groundbreaking films of all time:
- Star Wars (1977) – Designed essential matte paintings for space sequences.
- The Empire Strikes Back (1980) – Expanded the sci-fi universe with masterful backgrounds.
Returning to Disney, Harrison collaborated with his father on The Black Hole (1979), leading to an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects. Later, he headed Disney’s visual effects division, Buena Vista Visual Effects (BVVE), where he supervised effects for Tron (1982), one of the first films to integrate CGI and traditional effects.
The Ellenshaw Influence on Disney Visual Effects
