Disney Family Album: Celebrating Iconic Disney Voice Actors

The twelfth episode of The Disney Family Album, titled “Voice Actors,” originally aired on The Disney Channel in May 1985. This episode celebrates the talented individuals who brought Disney’s animated characters to life.

At Walt Disney Studios, animators always record the voice performances first. As a result, they can draw inspiration from the actors, ensuring the vocal performances influence the characters’ personalities. This technique helps create a natural and expressive connection between voice and animation.

This episode features interviews with several legendary Disney voice actors, including:

  • John Byner – Known for his work in The Black Cauldron (1985).
  • Phil Harris – Brought Baloo (The Jungle Book, 1967) and Thomas O’Malley (The Aristocats, 1970) to life.
  • Will Ryan – Provided voices in The Adventures of the Gummi Bears (1985–1991).
  • Sterling Holloway – The beloved voice of Winnie the Pooh and Kaa in The Jungle Book (1967).
  • Dickie “Pinocchio” Jones – The original voice of Pinocchio (1940).
  • Paul Winchell – Famous for voicing Tigger in Winnie the Pooh productions.
  • Wayne Allwine – Became the voice of Mickey Mouse from 1977 until 2009.
  • Hal Smith – Known for voicing Owl in Winnie the Pooh films.
  • Alan Young – Best known as Scrooge McDuck in DuckTales.
  • John Hurt – Narrated The Black Cauldron (1985).
  • Kathryn Beaumont – Voiced Alice (Alice in Wonderland, 1951) and Wendy (Peter Pan, 1953).

  • Adriana Caselotti – The original voice of Snow White in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937).

Additionally, Ward Kimball, one of Disney’s legendary animators, explains how voice acting helps bring animated characters to life. His insight highlights the collaborative process between animators and actors.

A Special Tribute to Clarence “Ducky” Nash

This episode was dedicated to Clarence “Ducky” Nash, the original voice of Donald Duck. Nash, who passed away in 1985, had participated in the first episode of Disney Family Album. His influence on Disney’s legacy remains timeless.
