Continuing our look at Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom Club Gold Card annual update, we land on the 1993 edition, celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Magic Kingdom Club. Shipped to cardholders on VHS, this year’s video invited members to Be Our Guest with special perks and vacation planning tips.
Hosted by Lumière, this update offered an exclusive look at Disney destinations around the globe. With the grand opening of Euro Disney Resort (now Disneyland Paris), there were now four Disney parks worldwide. Each one invited Magic Kingdom Club members to take advantage of exclusive benefits and discounts.

What Was the Magic Kingdom Club?
The Magic Kingdom Club (MKC) was a special membership program that started in 1957. Initially, it was available only to employees of large companies. Over time, it grew into a popular program for Disney fans with the Gold Card membership. By the early 1990s, it was a valuable resource for vacation planning, giving members access to:
- Discounts on park tickets, hotels, and dining
- Savings on Disney merchandise
- Annual VHS updates full of previews, vacation tips, and behind-the-scenes looks
These annual videos became highly anticipated, offering sneak peeks at new attractions and movies while helping families plan their Disney adventures.
The 1993 Update: Be Our Guest
In 1993, Lumière invited viewers to “pull up a chair” and enjoy Update ’93, celebrating the Magic Kingdom Club’s 35th anniversary. This year, members got a closer look at Euro Disney Resort, which had opened just a year earlier. The video highlighted the unique experiences available at the resort, along with its stunning French-inspired design.
Magic Kingdom Club Gold Card members received exclusive perks, including: Discounted tickets to all Disney theme parks, Special savings on accommodations at Disney resorts and Dining discounts at select restaurants
The update also featured news about Disney’s continued expansion and encouraged families to explore all four Disney destinations across the globe.
