A Star-Studded Dedication in 1989
The Dream Comes True, a 60-minute behind-the-scenes special produced during the park’s grand opening in 1989, takes viewers inside the launch of The Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park. The special opens with Michael Eisner’s now-famous words: “We welcome you to a Hollywood that never was—and always will be.”
Hosted by Disney Ambassador Kathleen Sullivan, the special frames the newly opened park as a “spectacular movie playground,” just days after its May 1 debut. What follows is a nostalgic and detailed look into the workings of Disney’s third Florida park.
Behind the Magic of Special Effects and Iconic Attractions
The special includes interviews with Imagineers and cast members, plus in-depth segments on the park’s signature experiences. Highlights include:
- An early walkthrough of the Great Movie Ride
- Action-packed scenes from the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular
- Classic moments from SuperStar Television, where guests stepped into the scenes of beloved shows
A Perfect Sequel to “The Making Of”
Though not produced by Disney, The Dream Comes True pairs perfectly with “The Making of… The Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park” and expands on the historical and creative background of the park. With a mix of live-action walkthroughs and on-location interviews, this 1989 special is a must-watch for fans of Disney Parks history.
