Sleeping Beauty Castle Transformed

Sleeping Beauty Castle received a regal overnight transformation to kick off the festivities. Draped in gold and adorned with commemorative décor, the castle stood as the centerpiece of Disneyland’s golden anniversary. It welcomed fans old and new into a year-long celebration of Disney magic.

A Look Back with Art Linkletter

Art Linkletter, host of Disneyland’s opening day broadcast in 1955, appeared at the event. New Attractions at Disneyland

To honor the past while looking toward the future, Disneyland introduced several new attractions:

  • Block Party Bash
  • Parade of Dreams
  • The First 50 Magical Years
  • Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters
  • Remember… Dreams Come True nighttime fireworks spectacular

These additions brought fresh energy to the park and celebrated its legacy with innovation and joy.

A Global Disney Celebration

The 50th anniversary celebration expanded far beyond Anaheim. Disney Parks across the globe joined in:

  • Tokyo Disneyland: Debuted “Disney’s Rock Around the Mouse” and opened the thrilling Raging Spirits coaster at Tokyo DisneySea.
  • Hong Kong Disneyland: Prepared to open its gates to guests for the first time.
  • Disneyland Paris: Introduced Space Mountain: Mission 2 and the “Wishes” nighttime fireworks show.
  • Disney Cruise Line: Launched its first West Coast voyages.
  • Walt Disney World Resort: Added new attractions in all four parks, including:

Celebrity Tributes

Michael Eisner, outgoing CEO of The Walt Disney Company, joined the event to introduce the global celebration. He reflected on the growth of the Disney Parks and welcomed a special guest: Julie Andrews. As Disneyland’s honorary ambassador, Andrews shared her memories of Disneyland’s early days and helped welcome Disney characters “home” for the celebration.
