The Muppets Are Coming!
On October 2, 2016, The Muppets Present: Great Moments in American History debuted at Liberty Square in Magic Kingdom, bringing history to life with Muppet-style humor. This 10-minute live show blended education, entertainment, and classic Muppet antics, quickly becoming a fan-favorite.

A Patriotic Performance in Liberty Square

The show took place outside the Hall of Presidents, with two rotating versions performed throughout the day:
- “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere”
- “The Signing of the Declaration of Independence”
These alternating performances encouraged repeat visits, as guests could enjoy different historical stories. Showtimes started at 9:30 AM, running at multiple intervals until the final performance around 1:50 PM, just before the Festival of Fantasy Parade.

The Muppets Take Over Liberty Square
James Jefferson, known as JJ the town crier, gathered the crowd to hear these hilarious retellings of American history. Sam the Eagle, ever the patriotic figure, overlooked the scene from above the Hall of Presidents. Kermit the Frog, appearing on the second floor of Heritage House, led the group in making history more entertaining. With approval from the audience, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and his chickens joined in the fun.
Best Viewing Locations
Since the show took place on the second-floor balconies, guests found the best views near Liberty Tree and The Old Christmas Shoppe. However, most of Liberty Square provided a good vantage point, allowing everyone to enjoy the experience.

The End of another Short Lived Muppet Legacy
Despite its popularity, Great Moments in American History ended its run on October 5, 2019. Disney briefly brought it back during the 2020 holiday season, but it was permanently retired soon after. Many fans expressed disappointment, as it was one of the few Muppet-themed attractions in the parks.

It was Hidden Gem in Magic Kingdom
Disney Imagineers brilliantly used this overlooked location to bring The Muppets’ humor and charm into Liberty Square. While its time was short-lived, it remains a beloved memory for Disney and Muppet fans alike. Great Moments in American History proved that Disney could successfully blend education, entertainment, and nostalgia, giving The Muppets a well-deserved place in the parks.
