Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebration kicked off with excitement across all four parks, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom brought some serious energy to the sky. We were there for the opening media event and captured all the magic—including exclusive interviews and footage of KiteTails in action, plus the debut of the EARidescent 8.
KiteTails Soars Over Discovery River
Premiering October 1, 2021, KiteTails is a brand-new daytime spectacular that transforms Discovery River Theater into a lively celebration of Disney’s most beloved animal characters.
During the show, performers dance and run with colorful windcatchers while massive three-dimensional kites—some as long as 30 feet—take flight over the water. These include characters like Simba, Zazu, Baloo, and King Louie, soaring through the sky to the rhythm of classic Disney songs.
Each presentation is a little different, with multiple versions and rotations throughout the day, so there’s always a reason to come back and catch another performance. It’s a bold, breezy burst of fun that adds something new and unexpected to the daytime lineup at Animal Kingdom.
Meet the EARidescent 8
Also debuting for the World’s Most Magical Celebration are the stylish and sparkling new looks of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Chip, and Dale—collectively known as the EARidescent 8.
We caught a firsthand look during the media preview as the characters stepped out in custom-made anniversary outfits. Their EARidescent costumes include embroidered Cinderella Castle icons, glittering fireworks details, and shimmering, multi-toned fabrics with gold highlights.
