The Muppet*Vision 3D pre-show is one of the most memorable parts of this classic attraction at Walt Disney World. With Disney announcing the final day for MuppetVision 3D* at Hollywood Studios, now is the perfect time to revisit this fan-favorite experience. From iconic quotes to hidden details inside the Muppet prop shop, this pre-show captured the chaotic and lovable spirit of the Muppets.
The Legacy of Muppet*Vision 3D Pre-Show
Jim Henson’s MuppetVision 3D* opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (formerly MGM Studios) on May 16, 1991, exactly one year after Jim Henson’s passing. The attraction’s film and pre-show were filmed in January 1990, making it one of the last Muppets projects Jim Henson was directly involved in. The Muppet*Vision 3D pre-show took place inside the Muppet prop warehouse, setting the stage with humor, Easter eggs, and classic Muppet mayhem.
Now, after more than three decades of entertaining guests, Disney has confirmed that MuppetVision 3D* and the surrounding Muppets Courtyard will close to make way for a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land.
Why the Muppet*Vision 3D Pre-Show Was So Special
The attraction is a classic, but the pre-show was an experience of its own. It took place inside a prop warehouse filled with gags and Easter eggs. The pre-show was just as quotable and memorable as the main show. Guests waited among crates of joke props and spotted hidden details. They found the famous “a-net-full-of-jello” and a tribute portrait of Jim Henson in the rafters.
The pre-show was pure Muppet chaos. Scooter, the stage manager, tried to prepare for the big show. He was constantly interrupted by Gonzo’s antics, Rizzo in costume, and confused delivery people. It featured unforgettable lines like, “Debbie was sick, wh—the union sent me,” “What foolishness would you like?” and “Rat schmat.” The pre-show became a fan favorite before the main event.
MuppetVision 3D* was meant to be part of a larger MuppetLand expansion. That vision never materialized. Instead, the attraction became a beloved part of Disney’s Hollywood Studios for over 30 years. Now, as it takes its final bow, it’s time to look back. The humor, heart, and history made it special.
