A Magical Milestone Begins

On October 1, 2021, Walt Disney World Resort officially kicked off “The World’s Most Magical Celebration,” marking its 50th anniversary. This 18-month-long event introduced a host of new attractions, entertainment, and experiences across all four theme parks and beyond.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Debuts at Epcot
Epcot’s France Pavilion expanded with the grand opening of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. This family-friendly attraction shrinks guests to the size of Chef Remy, scurrying through Gusteau’s bustling kitchen in a trackless ride experience. Adjacent to the ride, La Crêperie de Paris opened, offering both table- and quick-service options with a menu featuring sweet crepes, savory galettes, and traditional French hard cider.

Nighttime Spectaculars Illuminate the Skies
Two new nighttime shows premiered on October 1:
- HarmonioUS at Epcot: A celebration of Disney music’s global influence featuring massive floating set pieces, choreographed fountains, lights, pyrotechnics, and LED panels. The show includes interpretations of classic Disney songs performed by artists worldwide.

- Disney Enchantment at Magic Kingdom: This show takes guests on a journey filled with adventure and empowerment. It features stunning fireworks, music, enhanced lighting, and immersive projection effects that extend from Cinderella Castle down Main Street, U.S.A.

Daytime Entertainment Takes Flight
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, “Disney KiteTails” debuted at the Discovery River Theater. This daytime show features performers flying windcatchers and elaborate three-dimensional kites depicting Disney animal characters like Simba, Zazu, Baloo, and King Louie, all set to favorite Disney tunes.

Beacons of Magic Shine Bright
Each park icon transformed into a “Beacon of Magic” with unique nighttime illuminations:
- Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom: Adorned with golden bunting and a 50th-anniversary crest, it glows with a dazzling radiance.
- Spaceship Earth at Epcot: Features new lighting that shines across its reflective panels, creating a mesmerizing symbol of optimism.
- Hollywood Tower Hotel at Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Awash in brilliance, evoking the golden age of imagination and adventure.
- The Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom emanates a warm light as fireflies gather to usher in the magic of nature.
Fab 50 Character Collection
Fifty golden character sculptures were installed across all four theme parks, featuring beloved characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Simba, and Olaf. These sculptures celebrate Disney storytelling’s legacy and provide guests unique photo opportunities.
Culinary Delights and New Dining Experiences
The celebration introduced over 150 new food and beverage items across the resort. Notable additions include:
- Space 220 Restaurant at Epcot: Offers a unique dining experience 220 miles above Earth, with panoramic views of space and a menu featuring modern American cuisine.
- La Crêperie de Paris: As mentioned earlier, this new eatery in the France Pavilion serves authentic French crepes and galettes.
Drawn to Life by Cirque du Soleil
Premiering on November 18, 2021, at Disney Springs, “Drawn to Life” is a collaboration between Cirque du Soleil, Walt Disney Animation Studios, and Walt Disney Imagineering. This live acrobatic show tells the story of Julie, a girl who discovers an unexpected gift left by her Disney animator father: an unfinished animation. The performance combines Cirque du Soleil’s signature style with Disney magic.

Commemorative Merchandise Collections
Several new merchandise collections were launched to commemorate the 50th anniversary:
