This one-of-a-kind offering during the 2014 FIFA World Cup hasn’t been replicated since, making it a cherished memory for fans.
Disney went all out, turning the former Odyssey Restaurant into a World Cup paradise, with multiple HD TVs, a massive projection screen, comfy seating, charging stations, and even a snack bar. From June 12 to July 13, 2014, guests could escape the Florida heat, grab a cold drink, and watch every match live—from the group stages to the final showdown—in the heart of EPCOT.
The Ultimate Viewing Experience
The Odyssey Center became the ultimate soccer sanctuary, providing fans with access to ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC broadcasts. You were covered whether you preferred watching in the air-conditioned comfort of Odyssey or catching the games at other Walt Disney World viewing locations. Even resort guests could tune in from their rooms or use Disney’s park Wi-Fi to stream via WatchESPN.
The snack bar inside the Odyssey Center offered basics like Mickey pretzels, popcorn, and roasted nuts. For a more robust meal, guests could bring their food from nearby locations like the Mexico Pavilion. The draft beer selection featured Samuel Adams Seasonal (Summer), Florida Lager, Racer 5, and the sought-after Safari Amber, typically only available at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
World Cup Fun Beyond Odyssey
Beyond watching the matches, fans could shop for exclusive World Cup merchandise at the Odyssey Center, Mouse Gear, and select resorts like Pop Century and All-Star Resorts. Disney also brought the World Cup spirit to life with Soccer Goofy. This special topiary debuted at the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival earlier that year and remained throughout the tournament. Guests could even test their soccer skills at the Disney Soccer Experience near the Germany Pavilion.
