Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Comic Book – An Interview with Author Ethan Sacks (2020)

Expanding the Galaxy: Ethan Sacks on Bringing Batuu to the Page

If you’ve wandered through Black Spire Outpost at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, you’ve likely felt the story pulsing through every corner—from the cantina to the marketplace to the Resistance forest. But what if you could go even deeper?

That’s exactly what comic book author Ethan Sacks set out to do with Marvel’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge comic series. And in this episode of SamsDisneyDiary, I had the opportunity to chat with Sacks himself during the media preview of Rise of the Resistance, the second major attraction at Galaxy’s Edge. This conversation brings the printed pages of Batuu to life and ties the world of the comics directly into what you experience at the parks.

The Galaxy’s Edge Comic: More Than a Tie-In

Sacks’ Galaxy’s Edge comic doesn’t just tell random stories in a Star Wars setting—it dives deep into the everyday lives of smugglers, traders, and adventurers that pass through Black Spire Outpost. The series is tightly interwoven with the lore guests encounter at Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

“Writing Galaxy’s Edge gave me a chance to take readers beyond what they could see in the parks,” said Sacks. “It’s the same setting, but we explore it from a new angle. It’s all about expanding the mythology.”

Each issue of the five-part series brings a different story from Batuu, focusing on new characters and familiar Star Wars lore while staying true to the immersive world Disney Imagineering built.

From Comics to Canon: Star Wars Allegiance

Beyond Galaxy’s Edge, Ethan Sacks also wrote Star Wars: Allegiance, a prequel comic series that leads directly into The Rise of Skywalker. It follows Rey, Leia, and the Resistance as they attempt to rebuild after the events of The Last Jedi, introducing new allies and complications before the final film in the Skywalker saga.

“I wanted to show the in-between moments,” Sacks said. “What happens between films often defines the stakes.”
