The Walt Disney World Millennium Celebration was a 15-month event marking the turn of the century. Running from October 1, 1999, to January 1, 2001, the celebration spanned across Walt Disney World. Epcot stood at the center, highlighting human potential and future possibilities.
Spaceship Earth and the Iconic 2000 Wand
One of the most memorable visuals of the celebration was the giant wand structure beside Spaceship Earth, featuring the number 2000. This bold addition symbolized a new era of innovation and festivity at Epcot.
Tapestry of Nations – A Parade of Unity
Epcot introduced the Tapestry of Nations, a parade that circled World Showcase Lagoon with massive puppets and drummers. The performance represented global unity and even inspired the Super Bowl XXXIV Halftime Show, produced by Disney.
IllumiNations 2000: Reflections of Earth
A major highlight of the celebration was the debut of IllumiNations 2000: Reflections of Earth. This fireworks, laser, and water show told the story of Earth’s history and humanity’s journey. The spectacular display quickly became a fan favorite, running for nearly 20 years before retiring in 2019.
Millennium Village – A Showcase of Cultures
A significant addition to Epcot was Millennium Village, now called World Showplace. The 60,000-square-foot pavilion featured exhibits from countries not represented in World Showcase. Visitors could explore cultures from Ethiopia, India, Kenya, New Zealand, Indonesia, South Africa, Israel, and Namibia.
The pavilion also hosted the United Nations World Band and an EXPO 2000 exhibit, celebrating global collaboration and cultural exchange.

The Millennium Celebration at Epcot embraced the spirit of progress and unity, reinforcing the park’s mission to educate, inspire, and entertain. With nighttime shows, an immersive parade, and cultural exhibits, the event remains a cherished Disney memory.
