Celebrate the Future Hand in Hand was the theme for the 15 month long Walt Disney World Millennium Celebration starting October 1, 1999. While the celebration was throughout Walt Disney World, the center of the celebration was Epcot, with an emphasis on human potential and the possibilities of the future. The celebration included some changes for Epcot including the construction of a giant wand next to Spaceship Earth with “2000” and the all-new fireworks show “IllumiNations 2000:Reflections of Earth”. We take a look at the first, and the last parade around Epcot’s World Showcase Lagoon the “Tapestry of Nations” which became the inspiration for the Disney-produced Super Bowl XXXIV Halftime show that year. Maybe the biggest addition to Epcot was the Millennium Village, know now as World Showplace. A 60,000-square-foot building that contained exhibits featuring countries not represented in World Showcase including the United Nations World Band and an EPXO 2000 exhibit. Countries represented in the Millennium Village included Ethiopia, India, Kenya, New Zealand, Indonesia, South Africa, Israel, and Namibia. Be sure to stick around for Illuminations Reflections of Earth. Check out the Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade from 1999 and 2000
