Happy 2013 and Happy Limited Time Magic! That’s the message from the Disney marketing team for the 2013 Limited Time Magic campaign. This year-long event promised a new experience each week, giving Disney guests something exciting to look forward to every visit.
Disney didn’t release a full schedule, but Limited Time Magic included ideas like “True Love” over Valentine’s week, a Villains event on Friday the 13th, and Pirate Week. Disneyland celebrated a Golden Horseshoe Tribute, while Magic Kingdom rang in the new year every hour at the “Bling in the New Year Dance Party” in Tomorrowland. Thankfully, that event only lasted a week!
I would consider events like The Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival is an example of “Limited Time Magic”
EPCOT’s Winter Wonderland & Pirate Week
In mid-January, EPCOT transformed into a winter wonderland at the Canada Pavilion. Snow fell from January 13–20, 2013, creating a magical scene for one week only.
The unpredictability of Limited Time Magic left some guests wishing for a full schedule. For example, I wouldn’t want to miss Figment and Dream Finder’s return by just a day. Planning a Wednesday-to-Wednesday trip could help maximize these limited-time events.
Star Wars Weekend 2012 “Carbon Freeze Me Experience”
Star Wars Weekends 2013 and the Future of Star Wars Land
The announcement of Star Wars Weekends 2013 (May 17 – June 9) has me thinking about the future. Now that Disney owns Star Wars, could we finally see a Star Wars Land? Imagine a Cantina Bar replacing the Backlot Express or an outdoor market near Star Tours.
I participated in the Carbon Freeze Me Experience at Star Wars Weekends 2012, where I was “captured” by bounty hunters and frozen in carbonate. In addition, the experience was well-themed, with cast members fully in character.
D-Tech Me Disney Princess Experience
In 2012, Disney introduced the D-Tech Me Disney Princess Experience at World of Disney in Downtown Disney Marketplace. This 10-minute interactive experience allowed children to transform into a 3D Disney Princess figurine.
For example, guests could choose from seven princesses: Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White, and Tiana. The technology behind this experience used multiple cameras to capture a guest’s face and convert it into a 3D image. Figurines cost $99.95 plus shipping and arrived at guests’ homes within 5–6 weeks.
A Unique Year of Limited Time Magic
While Limited Time Magic in 2013 had some hits and misses, it brought unique experiences like Pirate Week, D-Tech Me, and Star Wars Weekends. Events like these keep Disney fans on their toes, wondering what magic will appear next! This was from the Walt Disney World Website.
“D-Tech Me is expanding starting August 26 at the World of Disney in Downtown Disney Marketplace. This new
D-Tech Me Disney Princess
interactive experience will allow guests ages 3-12 to live out princess dreams by placing their likeness on a three-dimensional 7-inch Disney Princess figurine keepsake!During this 10-minute experience, several cameras will instantly capture multiple angles of a guest’s face which are reconstructed in a computer for processing. The “princess in waiting” can choose one of seven different Disney Princesses including Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White and Tiana. Hair, skin and eye color of the figurine are customized to match the guest. A Princess silver link necklace with choice of colored gem charm is also included for participants.
The completed figurine is then shipped directly to the guest’s home within five to six weeks.
Each seven-inch Princess figurine is $99.95 (plus $15.95 shipping. Canadian and International shipping begins at $75.00). Guests can order additional replica seven-inch figurines for $74.95 each or a three-inch replica for $39.95. No discounts will be offered.
Reservations are strongly recommended for this limited time experience and can be made by calling 407-WDW-TECH (407-939-8324) starting August 7, 2012.
