Holiday Wishes 2013 – A Top of the World View from Bay Lake Tower

Sam’s Disney Diary has always been about preserving Disney memories and sharing the latest adventures. Last year I covered Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in detail—including the Once Upon a Christmastime Parade and Holiday Wishes fireworks. This year, I returned for the 2013 party and added something new: viewing Holiday Wishes from the Top of the World Lounge.

Holiday Wishes 2013, From Main Street

Bay Lake Tower’s Hidden Gem

Located atop the Contemporary Resort’s Bay Lake Tower, the Top of the World Lounge is a full-service bar reserved for Disney Vacation Club members and their guests staying on property. To access it, you’ll need a current room key (or MagicBand) and a valid DVC member card with ID.

While the lounge is a relaxing space on its own, the real draw is the incredible fireworks view. The Holiday Wishes soundtrack is pumped into the lounge, making it feel like you’re right there in the park—but with fewer crowds and more comfort.

A View Like No Other

From this high vantage point, you get a totally different angle on the show. While you can see Cinderella Castle, you won’t see the projections clearly. What you will see is just how far behind the castle the fireworks are actually launched. It’s eye-opening when you compare it to the Main Street view, where the bursts look like they’re directly behind the castle.

Even better, you can sometimes catch EPCOT’s Illuminations in the distance—though the music for that show isn’t included.

Combining the Best of Both

To capture the full experience, I edited together footage from both Main Street USA and Top of the World Lounge. This episode is my tribute to Holiday Wishes 2013, offering a unique perspective you can’t get from the park alone.
