A Classic Holiday Overlay Worth Traveling For
If Walt Disney World is your “home park,” then Small World Holiday is a solid reason to make the trip west to Disneyland for the holidays. From the moment you approach the iconic outdoor façade, something feels different—it’s the festive music, the seasonal decorations, the glow of lights, and of course, that cheerful holiday tune playing as you wait in line. This is the original It’s a Small World, rebuilt at Disneyland in 1966 after appearing at the 1964–65 New York World’s Fair.

The Magic of Disneyland’s Unique Overlay
Disneyland’s version of It’s a Small World has a unique charm all year long. It includes Disney characters blended into Mary Blair’s iconic style—characters like Ariel, Aladdin, Lilo, Woody, and more appear throughout the scenes in a way that adds to the re-rideability of the attraction. During the holidays, though, the experience becomes something truly magical.

At night, the exterior clock tower transforms into a full projection show, with colorful animations and synchronized music. Honestly, I found myself wishing the queue was longer just to enjoy the projections.
Inside the Attraction: Holiday Magic from Around the Globe
Once inside, the overlay continues with holiday décor, music, and scenes from around the world. The soundtrack blends the classic It’s a Small World theme with songs like Jingle Bells and Deck the Halls, reflecting the seasonal spirit of each represented culture.

The result is a joyful celebration of peace and goodwill, presented in a way only Disney can. From the glowing lights to the festive costumes and props, every scene bursts with holiday cheer.
Watch the Full Ride-Through Video
I did my best to capture the magic of the overlay in both video and audio, so you can experience the holiday spirit for yourself. This is a holiday tradition you don’t want to miss.
