The sixth episode of The Disney Family Album features Ken Anderson, a Disney Legend who helped shape both animation and theme park attractions. Originally airing on The Disney Channel in November 1984, this episode explores his 44-year career at Walt Disney Studios and his contributions to Disneyland’s earliest attractions.
Ken Anderson: Walt Disney’s “Jack of All Trades”
Walt Disney often referred to Ken Anderson as his “Jack of All Trades”, a title well earned. His art direction and storytelling skills influenced some of Disney’s most beloved animated classics, including:
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) – Helped define the film’s visual identity.
- Pinocchio (1940) – Designed key character animations and backgrounds.
- 101 Dalmatians (1961) – Led the development of Disney’s Xerox animation process.
- The Jungle Book (1967) – Contributed to the film’s unique artistic style.
Ken Anderson’s Disneyland Legacy
Beyond animation, Anderson played a major role in Disneyland’s design. His concept art helped bring these attractions to life:
- Peter Pan’s Flight – Designed the magical Neverland adventure.
- Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride – Created the chaotic, high-speed journey.
- Storybook Land Canal Boats – Crafted miniature fairy tale landscapes.
His innovative designs set the stage for future Imagineers, making Disneyland a place of immersive storytelling.
