Recorded During the Rededication of Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort and the Opening of Gran Destino Tower in 2019
The rededication ceremony for Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort and the grand opening of the Gran Destino Tower took place on July 9, 2019—marking a pivotal moment in the resort’s history. This was more than a new building—it was the grand finale of a multi-year reimagining of Walt Disney World’s largest convention resort.

Held at the resort’s Destino Plaza, the event featured live Spanish guitar music and opened with warm remarks by Thomas Mazloum, Senior Vice President of Resort and Transportation Operations. Hosted by Walt Disney World Ambassador Alumna Vanessa Rosas. The ceremony brought together Disney leadership, cast members, and fans alike to celebrate this elegant transformation.
A Celebration of Culture and Storytelling
The festivities included authentic Spanish Flamenco dancers, symbolic of the resort’s new stylistic influences drawn from the Disney/Dalà animated short Destino. This artistic theme carries throughout the tower—from the two-story lobby to the Dahlia Lounge and Toledo – Tapas, Steaks & Seafood restaurant on the 16th floor. The decor and narrative details pay homage to Chronos and Dahlia, characters from the surrealist film that inspired the tower’s name.

As part of the ceremony, Mickey Mouse himself made a surprise appearance. Taking the stage in classic celebratory style as flower petals showered down to mark the grand opening.
A New Era for Coronado Springs
The Gran Destino Tower brought 545 new guest rooms and suites to the resort. And now serves as the primary arrival and check-in location. The rededication not only introduced this new tower but also celebrated the resort’s refreshed identity, including:
- Three new pedestrian bridges crossing Lago Dorado
- The Three Bridges Bar & Grill outdoor restaurant
- Enhanced pathways, lounges, and recreation areas
- Continued dedication to Disney’s immersive storytelling through art, architecture, and design
This event marked a new chapter for Coronado Springs—redefining the guest experience for both leisure travelers and convention attendees.
