1993 Disney Easter Parade: Aladdin, Joey Lawrence, and Splash Mountain

The 1993 Disney Easter Parade aired on ABC on April 11, 1993. Joan Lunden and Regis Philbin hosted the special, while Joey Lawrence, Mary-Kate Olsen, and Jodi Sweetin joined the broadcast as guest stars. Together, they helped turn the parade into a strong snapshot of Walt Disney World in the early 1990s.

Aladdin Takes Over Disney-MGM Studios

One of the biggest highlights was Aladdin’s Royal Caravan at Disney-MGM Studios. The parade had already become part of the park’s entertainment lineup after debuting there in late 1992. Because of that, the Easter special used it as a major visual hook. Viewers got a lively look at Aladdin, Jasmine, Genie, and Abu on Hollywood Boulevard at a time when Disney was moving quickly to turn hit animated films into park entertainment.

Joey Lawrence at EPCOT and Typhoon Lagoon

The 1993 broadcast also leaned into Disney’s wider vacation story. Joey Lawrence explored EPCOT, moved through Future World and World Showcase, and then shifted to Typhoon Lagoon for a more active segment. As a result, the special felt bigger than a parade alone. It also played like a tour of the broader Walt Disney World experience.

Splash Mountain Was Still New

Another key segment focused on Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom. The attraction had only recently opened, so its inclusion gave the parade a timely hook for Disney fans watching at home. The flume ride already looked like a major addition to the park, and the Easter special used that excitement to show off one of Walt Disney World’s newest headline attractions.

Mary-Kate Olsen and Jodi Sweetin Add TV Star Power

The guest lineup gave the 1993 parade a clear early-1990s television feel. Mary-Kate Olsen and Jodi Sweetin helped connect the broadcast to family audiences who already knew them from television, while Joey Lawrence added another teen star presence. In turn, the special balanced Disney characters and park promotion with recognizable faces from the era.

Easter Energy at Magic Kingdom

Alongside those featured segments, the parade still delivered what viewers expected from the series. Main Street, U.S.A. filled with spring colors, character floats, and Easter costumes. Roger Rabbit, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast added even more Disney presence, giving the 1993 broadcast a packed lineup of characters and recognizable franchises.

Why the 1993 Parade Still Matters

What makes the 1993 Disney Easter Parade stand out today is how clearly it captures a transition moment for Walt Disney World. Disney-MGM Studios was still young, Splash Mountain was still new, and Aladdin was one of Disney’s hottest properties. Because of that, the special works as both an Easter parade and a time capsule of how Disney promoted its parks in that era.
