A Halloween Celebration with Disney MagicIn 1996, Walt Disney World celebrated its 25th anniversary with a burst of nostalgia and pink frosting—literally.  Cinderella Castle was transformed into a giant birthday cake. As part of the festivities, Disney Channel aired a Halloween-themed television special titled Witching You Were Here. Hosted by comedian and actress Caroline Rhea, this family-friendly special combined Halloween fun.  And a look back at 25 magical years of Walt Disney World.

In Witching You Were Here, two kids travel through time, exploring the 25-year history of Walt Disney World. As they uncover moments from the past, Caroline Rhea serves as our lively guide, helping viewers relive the parks’ transformation from one theme park to a full vacation destination. The special features musical numbers, comedic sketches, and a few spooky touches perfect for the Halloween season.

Though lighthearted in tone, the special offered genuine glimpses of Disney milestones, including highlights of opening day in 1971, the addition of EPCOT Center in 1982, and the debut of Disney-MGM Studios in 1989. Of course, the now-iconic Cinderella Castle Cake served as a visual centerpiece.
