Walt Disney World 25th Anniversary – Remember the Magic TV Special with Regis Philbin

Celebrate 25 Years of Disney Magic

It was the biggest celebration since the “World” began. A 15-month party filled with one-of-a-kind entertainment, unforgettable new attractions, and the most iconic makeover Cinderella Castle has ever received.

The 25th anniversary of Walt Disney World was all about Remembering the Magic—and Disney pulled out all the stops to make sure no guest would forget it.

The Televised Special: Hosted by Regis Philbin

To commemorate the milestone, Disney aired a national TV special hosted by Regis Philbin, titled Remember the Magic: Walt Disney World, The First Twenty-Five Years. The special not only highlighted new attractions and offerings across all three parks but also featured heartfelt interviews with Disney Legends who helped shape the Florida Project.

Guests like Roy E. Disney, Marty Sklar, Card Walker, Dick Nunis, and John Hench reflected on the early days of Walt’s dream and how far the resort had come since opening in 1971.

Highlights from the 25th Celebration

The TV special spotlighted everything new at Walt Disney World in 1996–1997:

• The 25th Anniversary Parade at Magic Kingdom, featuring classic characters and a catchy anthem.
• Cinderella Castle Cake Transformation – the 185-foot-tall pink birthday cake!
• Mickey’s Toontown Fair – a whimsical land just for little ones.
• IllumiNations 25 at Epcot – a special anniversary version of the nighttime spectacular.
• Epcot’s Test Track – still under development and previewed as a thrilling look into the future.
• Hunchback of Notre Dame Live on Stage at Disney-MGM Studios.
• Behind-the-scenes look at 101 Dalmatians, the 1996 live-action film.
• New Restaurants and Shops at the all-new Disney’s Boardwalk Resort.

A Look Back—and a Look Forward

What made this celebration so memorable was its blend of nostalgia and innovation. The special honored the legacy of Walt Disney while showcasing new experiences that would shape the next era of Walt Disney World.
