An Epic Star Wars Farewell at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Star Wars Weekends was a dream come true for fans across the galaxy. Hosted annually at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the event started in 1997, returned in 2000 and 2001, and became an annual tradition from 2003 to 2015. But everything changed when the Disney acquisition of Lucasfilm ushered in much bigger plans—eventually leading to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
A Galaxy of Activities and Entertainment
Star Wars Weekends was more than a festival—an immersive celebration. Guests enjoyed celebrity autographs, Legends of the Force motorcades with the 501st, exclusive collectibles from Darth’s Mall, Ackbar’s Snack Bar, Jedi Mickey meet-and-greets, and even galactic breakfasts at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater.
Remembering the Last HyperSpace Hoopla
What I miss most? HyperSpace Hoopla! This wildly popular show ended each day of the event, blending dance-offs with hilarious Star Wars character cameos. 2013 marked the final performance, and luckily, I’ve uncovered front-row footage of that unforgettable night.
Back then, Disney freely used characters like Darth Vader, Chewbacca, and Boba Fett in playful and out-of-character performances. It may have been the last time we heard Jedi Mickey say, “May the Force be with you.”
A Celebration Never Forgotten
Though Star Wars Weekends is now a memory, the energy and magic of those final shows—especially the last HyperSpace Hoopla—live in fans’ hearts. Rewatch the excitement and say goodbye to one of Disney’s unique stage shows.
