For over three decades, the Grand Floridian Society Orchestra (GFSO) provided the perfect musical backdrop to one of Walt Disney World’s most elegant resorts. Whether you were checking in, grabbing afternoon tea, or simply enjoying the grandeur of the lobby, the sound of live ragtime, Dixieland, and Disney melodies made your visit even more magical.
A 32-Year Legacy of Music and Magic
The orchestra’s journey began in the early days of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. With their crisp white tuxedos and signature charm, this talented six-piece ensemble delivered live music that blended sophistication with warmth. They performed beloved Disney classics and timeless American standards, often adding their unique twist. Their music wasn’t just background noise—it was part of the Grand Floridian’s identity.
The Final Chapter in 2020
In August 2020, the orchestra temporarily relocated to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, performing at the Theater of the Stars under a new name: The Disney Society Orchestra. Their new show celebrated Disney Park attractions with tunes from The Little Mermaid, Toy Story, and The Muppets. Although brief, these performances offered fans a socially distanced way to enjoy the group’s talent one last time.
Unfortunately, those final shows ended on October 3, 2020, closing the curtain on a 32-year musical tradition at Walt Disney World. All but three of those years were spent performing in the Grand Floridian lobby.
