Back in January 1991, the magic of Disney met the voice of a Canadian music legend. Anne Murray in Disney World was a musical variety show that brought smooth vocals, A-list guests, and a splash of Mickey magic to CBC television. Filmed across Walt Disney World Resort, it showcased Disney entertainment in a way fans hadn’t seen before.
Music, Stars, and a Bit of Disney Whimsy
Anne Murray wasn’t alone on this magical adventure. She performed alongside music legends like Julio Iglesias and Patti LaBelle. Comedian Andrea Martin and pop artist Paul Janz also appeared, adding fun and variety to the one-hour show.
And yes, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made a surprise appearance—because why not? It was the ’90s! Of course, Mickey Mouse joined the fun, making sure Disney magic stayed at the center of every scene.
Sunday Fun Television Magazine featured the special in its February 24–March 2 issue, placing Anne Murray and some Disney friends right on the cover. It teased the show’s variety with the tagline: “Anne Murray and some cute cutups at Disney World.”
A Tour Across Walt Disney World
Filming wasn’t limited to one park. The special toured several locations throughout Walt Disney World, giving viewers a virtual vacation. One key filming site was the then-new Disney-MGM Studios (now Hollywood Studios), which had recently opened in 1989.
The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular played a key role in showcasing the studio’s behind-the-scenes thrills. Cameras also visited Pleasure Island, Disney’s original nightlife hub located in Downtown Disney—now reimagined as Disney Springs.
A Flashback Worth Watching
This special blended Anne Murray’s timeless voice with Disney’s imagination, creating something unforgettable. For fans of early ’90s Disney or Canadian music, it’s a magical time capsule that deserves a second look.
