A Tradition of Precision and Pride
In the heart of Epcot’s World Showcase, the Italian Flag Throwers brought a centuries-old tradition to life. From 2014 to 2016, guests could experience the high-flying art of flag-throwing in the Italy Pavilion. This performance, recorded in 2015, showcases the passion and heritage behind one of Italy’s most iconic displays.

The History of Flag Throwing in Italy
Flag throwing—or sbandieratori—has deep roots in Italian history. Originally a battlefield tradition, soldiers would protect and wave their flags as symbols of power, unity, and pride. Over time, this skill transformed into an art form performed during festivals and ceremonies across Italy.

The troupe featured at Epcot is one of the oldest in Italy. Many performers have known each other since early childhood, starting their training as young as five. Their bond and practice are clear in every coordinated toss, spin, and catch.
