Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure officially opened in the France Pavilion at Epcot’s World Showcase on October 1, 2021, coinciding with Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration—also known as The World’s Most Magical Celebration.
A Long-Awaited Debut
We first peeked inside Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in December 2019, shortly after its official announcement at the D23 Expo. Originally planned to open in Summer 2020, the opening was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For months, fans watched construction progress from the Disney Skyliner gondolas. The new opening date was moved to October 1, 2021, aligning with Disney World’s milestone celebration.
A Mini-Land Expansion in France
This isn’t just a new attraction—Disney describes the addition as a “mini-land” expansion. The France Pavilion now doubles in size, seamlessly blending the original area with an immersive “animated Paris” inspired by the Pixar film Ratatouille.
The new area begins with a waterside pathway near the International Gateway entrance. Guests walk under an art nouveau-style arch, pass La Crêperie de Paris, and enter the “Alley of the Merchants”—a bustling Parisian street. Imagineers collaborated with Pixar to design buildings using bold colors, imperfect lines, and whimsical touches to mirror the film’s animation style.
Shrink Down to Remy’s World
The attraction invites guests to shrink to the size of a rat and follow Remy through the bustling kitchen and dining rooms of Gusteau’s restaurant. Guests board trackless, rat-shaped ride vehicles, don 3D glasses, and enjoy a “rat’s-eye view” through animated 3D scenes, oversized props, and synchronized motion. Each ride vehicle takes a slightly different path, ensuring unique experiences with each visit.
Characters speak a mix of English and French, and immersive details—such as sounds, scents, and lighting—fully immerse guests in the story. Highlights include falling through a skylight, scurrying through the kitchen, and dodging humans in the pantry.
The Fountain and Merch
At the center of this whimsical Paris stands a fountain inspired by Remy himself. The sculpture features champagne bottles, rats, and Remy wearing a chef’s toque atop it all. Nearby, a themed merchandise kiosk offers a line of Remy-inspired accessories, including an interactive chef hat where Remy “controls” the wearer, just like in the film.
La Crêperie de Paris – A Taste of Brittany
The new table-service restaurant next to the ride, La Crêperie de Paris, draws inspiration from the Brittany region of France. It features both table- and quick-service options and offers a menu of savory galettes, sweet dessert crepes, and traditional hard ciders.
Chefs make the gluten-friendly galettes using imported French buckwheat.. Signature dishes include the Classique—a galette filled with ham, Swiss cheese, and egg. Dessert crepes and house-made ice cream round out the meal.
Quick-service options are available at Crêpes À Emporter, located along the promenade. This walk-up window serves three savory galettes, four dessert crepes, and beverages including wines and ciders.
A Milestone for Epcot
This expansion represents a key milestone in Epcot’s multi-year transformation, blending real-world France with animated Paris. The new space brings family-friendly charm, engaging storytelling, and culinary delights that deepen the cultural and magical experience of World Showcase.
