Harmonious EPCOT Opening Night: A Global Musical Celebration
Recorded September 29, 2021, and debuting officially on October 1, Harmonious opened as Walt Disney World’s newest nighttime spectacular at EPCOT. Part of The World’s Most Magical Celebration honoring 50 years of Walt Disney World, the show blends classic Disney melodies with global cultural influences, showcasing the power of music to unite us all.
With dazzling fireworks, lasers, fountains, and custom arrangements performed by a culturally diverse ensemble of 240 musicians worldwide, Harmonious is one of the largest and most elaborate shows Disney has ever created.
The Music Behind the Magic
More than 110 recording sessions were held across nine countries, capturing performances reimagining 15 beloved Disney songs. These songs are heard in their original languages and new styles—some traditional, some bold, all inspiring.
As Steven Davison, Executive Creative Director of Disney Live Entertainment, said:
“The driving force of ‘Harmonious’ is the music, featuring voices of the world coming together to share in timeless Disney songs.”
Harmonious Highlights
Guests around the World Showcase Lagoon are taken on a journey through sound and story, featuring:
- “How Far I’ll Go” and “Go the Distance” performed by Danny Gokey, Elisha Garrett, and Ninet Tayeb
- “The Lion King” medley by South Africa’s Ndlovu Youth Choir in English and Zulu
- “Dig a Little Deeper” with gospel legends Karen Clark Sheard and Kierra Sheard
- “Out There” from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, sung by Damien Sargue
- A “Coco” tribute from Luis Fonsi and Joy, bringing pan-Latin energy
- “Touch the Sky” and other Brave themes featuring Máiréad Nesbitt and Lindsey Stirling
- Musical blends from Mulan, The Jungle Book, and Aladdin, performed by a range of international vocalists
The Finale: A Message of Hope
The show’s emotional finale features the song “Someday” from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, paired with the new EPCOT theme by Pinar Toprak. The message? A future filled with hope, magic, and connection—perfectly fitting for a park dedicated to global unity and progress.
A Milestone in EPCOT’s Transformation
Harmonious continues the multi-year reimagination of EPCOT, ushering in a new era of storytelling through music, culture, and spectacle. With floating barges equipped with custom-built projection systems and choreography synced to every beat, it’s a one-of-a-kind experience.
