Today marks the 40th anniversary of TRON, the groundbreaking 1982 Disney film that introduced the world to the digital realm known as the Grid. What began as a cult sci-fi classic has evolved into a global phenomenon. Its legacy continues in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park with the upcoming debut of TRON Lightcycle / Run — one of the most anticipated attractions ever built at Walt Disney World.
TRON Lightcycle / Run Enters Testing Phase
Imagineers are hard at work as TRON Lightcycle / Run begins to light up the Magic Kingdom skyline. Currently in its testing phase, the high-speed coaster will be one of the fastest rides at any Disney park. Guests will climb aboard their own Lightcycle and launch into the Grid for an electrifying race through a sleek, digital realm.
The Story Behind the Ride
This new attraction picks up after the events of TRON: Legacy, where Sam Flynn continues his father’s work by creating new portals into the Grid. The first was built at Shanghai Disneyland with TRON Lightcycle Power Run. Now, guests at Magic Kingdom will experience the second portal — and their race through the digital frontier.
Step Into the Grid
From the moment you enter the attraction’s queue, you’ll feel like you’ve been digitized. The queue experience transforms you into a “User” entering the Grid for a special Lightcycle competition. You’ll join Team Blue and launch into a race against Team Orange as you twist, turn, and zoom through eight Energy Gates. Your mission? Cross the finish line first and secure your team’s victory.
