Muppet Vision 3D opened at Walt Disney World’s MGM Studios on May 16, 1991—exactly one year after Jim Henson’s passing. While Henson directed the main film, one of the final Muppet projects he led, the MuppetVision 3D Pre-Show was produced after his death. Frank Oz led the team for the production. That’s also why Kermit the Frog doesn’t appear in the pre-show—a tribute to Jim Henson, the only person who had performed Kermit.
The pre-show focuses on Scooter, Gonzo, Rizzo, and other supporting Muppets who bring the chaotic warehouse setting to life., a fan-favorite moment that remains one of the funniest and most quotable experiences in any Disney park. Disney had initially planned the experience as part of the never-built MuppetLand expansion.
