Disney Cruise Line Expands Fleet with New Global Ship for 2025
Big news from the high seas! On November 16, 2022, Disney announced it had acquired a partially completed cruise ship. This vessel will bring the magic of a Disney Cruise Line vacation to new global destinations in 2025. The addition marks a major expansion for Disney’s reach in the international cruise market.
A Magical Transformation at Sea
Previously known as the Global Dream, the ship will receive a new name and a full reimagining led by Walt Disney Imagineering. Guests can look forward to Disney entertainment, top-notch dining, and exceptional service. A new rendering reveals the ship painted in the signature Mickey Mouse-inspired colors, including bold red funnels and a classic navy hull.
The renowned Meyer Werft shipyard in Wismar, Germany, will complete construction. This shipyard also built the Disney Dream, Fantasy, and Wish. Disney purchased the vessel at a favorable price after the previous owner went bankrupt.

Innovation Meets Imagination
The ship will be one of the first in the industry to run on green methanol, an eco-friendly fuel that produces fewer emissions. Once finished, it will weigh approximately 208,000 gross tons and accommodate around 6,000 passengers, supported by a crew of 2,300.
Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, explained, “This ship will allow more families than ever to enjoy a Disney Cruise Line vacation.”
Sailing Beyond the U.S.
This new ship will operate outside the United States, expanding Disney Cruise Line’s global offerings. Details on the ship’s maiden voyage, itineraries, and onboard features will be revealed soon.
Disney’s acquisition also helps preserve maritime jobs. Former MV Werften employees and local suppliers will benefit from the revival of the project.
Where Disney Sails
Disney Cruise Line currently sails to popular destinations like the Bahamas, Caribbean, Europe, Alaska, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, and the South Pacific. The line will begin its first-ever Australian and New Zealand itineraries in late 2023, and this new ship will open even more possibilities for global adventures.
