Disney Cruise Line is expanding once again. In a major announcement from November 16, 2022, Disney confirmed the acquisition of a partially completed cruise ship previously known as the Global Dream. This addition will mark a significant milestone for the fleet, offering magical vacations in new global destinations beginning in 2025. The ship is now known as the Disney Adventure.
Reimagined by Walt Disney Imagineers
The vessel will be completed in Wismar, Germany, at the former MV Werften shipyard under the direction of Meyer Werft, the same company behind the Disney Dream, Fantasy, and Wish. Now under Disney ownership, the ship will receive signature design elements and storytelling experiences imagined by Walt Disney Imagineering. The final name and full details are still to be revealed.

According to Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, “Our cruise ships give us the unique opportunity to bring Disney magic to fans no matter where they are. This addition will make a Disney Cruise Line vacation accessible to more families than ever before.”
A Ship Like No Other
The new Disney Cruise Line ship will reflect the iconic Mickey Mouse-inspired color palette, complete with signature red funnels. Once complete, the ship will feature the dazzling entertainment, immersive storytelling, and family-friendly experiences Disney Cruise Line is known for.

This 208,000-gross-ton ship ranks among the first in the cruise industry to use green methanol—one of today’s lowest-emission fuels. It will accommodate approximately 6,000 passengers and 2,300 crew members.
Based Outside the United States
Unlike the rest of the Disney fleet, this ship will be based outside the United States. Offering access to brand-new global itineraries. By completing construction in Germany, Disney not only expands its fleet but also supports the region’s maritime economy, securing jobs and partnerships with local suppliers.

The acquisition came after the ship’s original owner filed for bankruptcy. Disney was able to purchase the partially completed vessel at a favorable cost—within the capital spending guidance shared during its quarterly earnings call.
More Magic Coming Soon
Disney Cruise Line has promised more information soon, including maiden voyage dates, itineraries, and onboard experiences. Fans of Disney’s cruise offerings can expect more global magic, innovative dining, and spectacular entertainment in the coming years.
Disney Cruise Line currently sails to the Bahamas, Caribbean, Europe, Alaska, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, and the South Pacific. In 2023, it expanded even further with first-ever sailings to Australia and New Zealand.
