A New Chapter Begins January 23, 2023
Mark your calendars! Splash Mountain at Walt Disney World closed on January 23, 2023, to make way for an exciting reimagining: Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. First announced in 2020, this all-new attraction brings the vibrant culture, spirit, and music of New Orleans to life, continuing the story from Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog.”
First Look: A New Scene in the Bayou
Earlier this month, Disney revealed a first look at a brand-new scene from the ride, showcasing a thrilling bayou drop where riders will meet both familiar and all-new critter characters. As you enter the glowing bayou, fireflies guide your way while zydeco music fills the air—a true Louisiana rhythm-and-blues blend that will have you feeling like you’ve stepped right into Tiana’s world.
Meet the Musical Critters
In this scene, you’ll encounter Louis the alligator and a band of adorable animals, including a turtle, raccoon, otter, rabbit, and beaver, all using bayou-found instruments to jam out in an unforgettable musical moment. Disney Imagineers hinted that these critters may have a bigger role to play in the story, so fans will want to keep an eye—and ear—out.
A Cultural Celebration Through Music
The ride is designed to bring people together through the universal language of music. With nods to New Orleans culture, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure picks up where the film left off, inviting guests to join Princess Tiana and Louis as they prepare for a one-of-a-kind Mardi Gras celebration.
More Than Just a Reimagining
This transformation isn’t just about storytelling—it’s about inclusivity, community, and magic. As part of Disney’s Wonderful World of Dreams pavilion at D23 Expo 2022, this new attraction offers a glimpse into the future of immersive experiences at Disney Parks.
Farewell, Splash Mountain, Hello Tiana!
Splash Mountain’s closure marks the end of an era and the beginning of a brand-new adventure filled with heart, heritage, and music. We can’t wait to explore the bayou with Tiana when the new attraction opens in late 2024!
