Announced with major excitement at D23 Expo 2022, Disney confirmed that Pacific Wharf at Disney California Adventure would be reimagined as San Fransokyo from the Academy Award®-winning film Big Hero 6.
Now, that transformation is well underway—and this summer, during the Disney100 celebration, you’ll be able to step into San Fransokyo Square, a vibrant new area where East meets West in spectacular Disney style.
A Fictional City, Built on Real-World Charm
San Fransokyo Square blends the familiar streets of San Francisco with the neon tech of Tokyo. The result is a multicultural seaside district powered by creativity and innovation.
Imagineers have crafted a detailed backstory: as fishing industries declined, tech entrepreneurs stepped in to reshape old canneries into modern food stalls, businesses, and cultural landmarks.
Everywhere you look, you’ll find clues to the city’s past, present, and future—woven together with Disney storytelling magic.
Iconic Landmarks and New Character Encounters
One of the land’s most recognizable features will be the San Fransokyo Gate Bridge, which spans the tide pools linking the area to Paradise Gardens Park. Once you cross the bridge, look up and spot a floating wind turbine atop an old fishing net tannery—now a source of clean power for the entire district. Guests may even encounter Baymax outside a converted warehouse on the south end of San Fransokyo, bringing the world of Big Hero 6 to life.
Dining in San Fransokyo Square
While Pacific Wharf’s favorite eateries remain open during the transformation, even more options are coming soon. You’ll still be able to enjoy classics like soups in sourdough bread bowls, ice cream sundaes, and Mexican fare.
But alongside those will be new Asian-inspired dishes reflecting the land’s global fusion theme. One exciting addition is the Port of San Fransokyo Cervecería, featuring signage in English, Japanese, and Spanish. Outside, a festive beer garden will invite guests to relax beneath paper lanterns, festoon lights, and papel picado.
Opening This Summer
San Fransokyo Square will officially debut later this summer, offering the perfect way to celebrate Disney100 at Disneyland Resort. Whether you’re craving great food, a fresh photo with Baymax. Or just a stroll through a one-of-a-kind city, this reimagined land is sure to be a highlight of the season.
