Dolls have long sparked imagination and inspired happiness across generations. In honor of World Doll Day on June 10, Disney is highlighting the joy and creativity that dolls bring—not only for collectors and fans but for the designers who craft them.
The Designer Behind the Mulan 25th Anniversary Doll
Jessica Fuchs, known to many as “J,” is a product design manager with Disney Consumer Products, Games, and Publishing. For over a decade, she’s helped bring Disney characters to life in collectible form. Most recently, she led the creation of the new Mulan 25th Anniversary Limited Edition Doll, which was released June 5.
“I love that the release of Mulan coincides with World Doll Day,” said J. “So many fans relate to her strength and story. It’s so gratifying to bring her to life through this art form.”
The 17-inch doll blends historical references and movie accuracy with elegant design elements. Layers of organza, satin, brocade, golden beads, and tassels decorate a stunning pink, red, and blue gown.
“I loved designing Mulan’s upturned shoes so they wouldn’t catch on her long skirt,” J added. “Details like that really bring her to life.”
More Disney Dolls That Celebrate Inclusion
J also contributed to the CreativeSoul Doll Collection, a collaboration with CreativeSoul Photography. The line features Afro-centric designs of Cinderella, Tiana, Snow White, and Rapunzel, celebrating diversity in storytelling.
“It was incredibly rewarding to help bring that vision to life,” J said. “Projects like these represent all fans and bring joy to so many people.”
The Joy of Collecting
For J, doll design is about more than creating beautiful products. It’s about connection.
“As someone who’s collected lots of things, I know the joy of finding something that truly resonates,” she said. “It’s about the message, the memory, and the magic that stays with you.”
Whether it’s a cherished childhood doll or a new favorite on your display shelf, Disney dolls continue to inspire wonder and imagination. This World Doll Day, celebrate the artistry and stories behind every design—and the passionate people who bring them to life.
“I usually like to pull from historical references when I start to work on a doll and combine those touches with the movie reference,” J added as she reflected on her favorite parts of the design. “Things like Mulan’s shoes with upturned toes so as not to catch on the long trailing skirt and sleeves are fun little details I brought in.”
