Rhonda Wood, Disneyland Resort’s urban forester and a 25-year cast member, leads an inspiring mission to protect the resort’s nearly 16,000 trees. From the tiny mugo pines in Storybook Land Canal Boats to the majestic redwoods at Grizzly River Rapids, these trees tell stories and create lasting guest memories.
Creating Keepsakes Through Sustainable Solutions Disneyland Tree Transformation
When a tree completes its natural life cycle at Disneyland, the typical process involves turning it into mulch to nourish new plants. However, Rhonda’s team envisioned something greater. Now, in partnership with Daniels Wood Land, Disneyland transforms end-of-life trees into unique keepsake products, merging sustainability with storytelling.
From Iconic Trees to Cherished Mementos
“These living elements have been part of the park for generations,” Rhonda explained. “I feel honored to help create a program that gives these trees a meaningful second life.” During D23, the first 1,000 medallions—crafted from salvaged trees—were gifted to fans. Today, select keepsakes are available for purchase at Disneyland Resort galleries.
A Legacy That Supports the Community
Disney expanded its impact by donating $25,000 to TreePeople, a nonprofit committed to planting and nurturing trees across Southern California. This donation continues Disney’s 25-year collaboration with the organization.
