Walt Disney World 2023 Holiday Preview: A Festive Celebration

Preparation for the holidays is already in full swing at Walt Disney World Resort, as the Most Magical Place on Earth prepares to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. While the final details come together in the fall, many Cast Members spend months—sometimes a full year—preparing to spread seasonal cheer.

The team of designers, decorators and other professionals at Walt Disney World Holiday Services prepare and install more than 600 trees and 1,700 wreaths, and hang nearly nine miles of garland each year to transform four theme parks, resort hotels, Disney Springs and the rest of the resort into a holiday wonderland. A Season of Magic and Celebration

From twinkling lights to elaborate holiday decorations, Walt Disney World transforms into a winter wonderland filled with festive surprises. Every park embraces the season, featuring unique holiday overlays, themed entertainment, and special seasonal treats.

Holiday Highlights Across the Parks

  • Magic Kingdom welcomes guests with Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, featuring a spectacular holiday parade, dazzling fireworks, and special character meet-and-greets.
  • EPCOT hosts the International Festival of the Holidays, where guests can enjoy cultural holiday traditions, festive foods, and the beloved Candlelight Processional.
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios brings back Sunset Seasons Greetings, where Hollywood Tower Hotel transforms into a wintery scene through stunning projections.
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom celebrates the season with festive flotillas, featuring Disney characters in their holiday best, sailing along Discovery River.

Walt Disney World culinary teams spend up to seven months planning and building the displays. The culinary team at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa starts mixing fragrant dough in May, letting it cure a full two months before it is baked. Individual shapes, from shingles to Mickey cookies, are baked and decorated throughout the summer and then stored for “construction” in November. The house itself takes three days to build. Behind-the-Scenes Holiday Magic

While guests enjoy the spectacular decorations and entertainment, Disney’s Holiday Services Team works tirelessly to create the immersive seasonal experience. Every wreath, garland, and sparkling light is carefully planned to ensure Disney’s holiday magic shines bright.
