Imagine being asked, โDo you wanna design cast costumes for World of Frozen?โ That dream came true for Hong Kong Disneylandโs Manager of Costuming Eva Chan and Senior Costumer Angel Sin. The talented duo gave us a behind-the-scenes look at how they brought the citizens of Arendelle to life through creative, functional, and culturally inspired cast costumes for the brand-new World of Frozen land opening Nov. 20.
A Duo with Disney Design Experience
Eva, a 25-year Disney veteran, has been with Hong Kong Disneyland since its grand opening, creating costumes for everything from attractions to resort hotels. Angel joined the team seven years ago and made her mark designing the cast costumes for Disney Explorers Lodge. World of Frozen is her biggest project to date, and together, she and Eva ensured every stitch reflected the spirit of Arendelle.

Outfits Made to Mix and Match
Drawing inspiration from traditional Norwegian bunads, Eva and Angel created an expansive wardrobe that lets cast members customize their looks. Reversible vests, breeches in various shades, and five shirt options ranging from royal purple to icy blue make up just a few of the choices available. Accessories such as sunflower hair clips, hair scarves, and sashes let cast members add their own personal touch. Fun fact: the sunflower accessories are also available for guests to purchase at Tick Tock Toys & Collectibles!

Traditional Design in the Village
Costumes on the village side of Arendelle feature floral patterns and rosemaling embroideryโa decorative style rooted in Scandinavian Viking heritage and European baroque and rococo traditions. These intricate designs echo motifs seen throughout the landโs architecture and Arendelleโs official crest.

Oaken-Inspired Looks in the Forest
Across the fjord in Arendelle Forest, cast members wear costumes inspired by none other than Oaken. Sweaters from his famous โwinter departmentโ are paired with cropped breeches and suspenders. The earthy color palette is a nod to the surrounding forest landscape and helps blend characters naturally into their themed setting.

Designed with Climate in Mind
Despite the icy theme, Hong Kongโs climate is often humid. To ensure comfort, Eva and Angel chose light, moisture-wicking fabrics that still fit the landโs aesthetic. They even added themed raincoats and water bottle covers featuring rosemaling detailsโanother example of their thoughtful approach.

All-New Name Tags for Arendelle Citizens
Exclusive to World of Frozen, the new name tags showcase each cast memberโs location, whether itโs Frozen Ever After, Wandering Oakenโs Sliding Sleighs, or Tick Tock Toys & Collectibles. Fittingly, the tags also include a blooming sunflower, symbolizing the Summer Snow Day celebration, merging yellow petals with icy blue crystals.
We canโt wait to meet the citizens of Arendelle in just a few weeks. Whether youโre a fan of fashion, Frozen, or both, this detailed costume design brings even more life and authenticity to Hong Kong Disneylandโs World of Frozen.
