Returning to Walt’s Office

At age 94, Richard Sherman returned to Walt Disney’s office in 2022 to record the iconic song on the piano he once played for Walt himself. Directors Dan Abraham and Trent Correy shared the emotional journey of bringing this special moment to life, calling it one of the most meaningful experiences of their careers.

“Seeing Richard back in Walt’s office, playing the same piano, was unforgettable,” Abraham said. “When he played ‘Feed the Birds,’ it gave us chills.” Correy added, “This song has always meant so much, and hearing Richard perform it here made it even more powerful.”

A Meaningful Collaboration

The idea to invite Richard came after Howard Green, Legacy Communications Executive, arranged for producers Yvett Merino and Bradford Simonsen to present the storyboards to him. Inspired by the project, Richard agreed to reprise the beloved tune. With help from head of music Matt Walker, the team arranged a recording session inside Walt’s preserved office, complete with the original piano.

A Magical Recording Session

During the session, Richard delighted the team by also playing “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” and “A Spoonful of Sugar.” Producers described the experience as magical and were grateful to witness such a historic moment.

Honoring Walt’s Legacy

For Richard, contributing to Once Upon a Studio honored Walt Disney’s vision and legacy. “Walt loved this song,” Richard shared. “It’s about kindness, love, and giving a little of yourself—values that still matter today.”
