Honoring U.S. Military Veterans at Disney Parks

Disney Experiences across the U.S. proudly honored our nation’s veterans in the week leading up to Veterans Day 2023. The Disney Veterans Day Tribute was brought to life through heartfelt celebrations at both Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. From military band performances to special flag retreat ceremonies and flyovers, these tributes recognized those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

A Patriotic Disney Veterans Day Tribute at Disneyland Park

Disneyland Park hosted a memorable Veterans Day flag retreat ceremony in Town Square on Main Street, U.S.A., highlighted by a dramatic flyover from a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III. The event began with nearly 200 Disney cast members from the Disney SALUTE veteran affinity group, proudly marching in uniform to the sounds of the U.S. Marine First Division Band.

As the C-17 soared over Sleeping Beauty Castle during the national anthem, applause erupted from guests and cast alike. Adding a unique layer of meaning to the moment were Staff Sergeants Cody and Matt Breidinger—identical twin brothers who both work as Disneyland cast members and serve in the U.S. Air Force Reserve’s 729th Airlift Squadron, the very squadron responsible for the flyover.

U.S. Air Force Gen. David Allvin, Chief of Staff, joined Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro and Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock to thank all cast veterans for their service. This unforgettable flyover underscored the importance of the Disney Veterans Day Tribute on the West Coast.

Celebrating Veterans at Walt Disney World

On the East Coast, Walt Disney World hosted its own Disney Veterans Day Tribute with a special flag retreat ceremony in Magic Kingdom Park. As part of an annual tradition, three cast members were recognized as “Veterans of the Year”:

  • Joanna Abinuman (U.S. Air Force veteran)
  • Carl Adrian Abinuman (U.S. Navy Reserve)
  • Oscar Marin (U.S. Marine Corps veteran)

For Oscar, the moment was especially meaningful—he joined Disney through the Disney Military Fellowship program while transitioning out of active duty. These recognitions reflect the heart of the Disney Veterans Day Tribute.

Military Bands and Disney Veterans Day Music Celebrations

Throughout the week, military bands performed stirring music for guests across both coasts.  At Disneyland, the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West and the 1st Marine Division Band brought music to Main Street. Meanwhile, Walt Disney World featured performances by U.S. Navy Band Southeast, including their marching band, brass quintet, and Navy Rock Band at various locations such as Magic Kingdom, Disney Springs, and Epcot.

Disney’s Ongoing Tribute to Veterans

For more than 100 years, Disney has demonstrated its commitment to honoring the U.S. military. From Walt Disney’s contributions during WWII to the continued work of Disney SALUTE teams.  The Disney Veterans Day Tribute reflects a legacy of appreciation for those who serve. Military discounts, veteran hiring initiatives, and events like this continue to show gratitude for veterans and their families.

Thank you to all who serve and have served.  We salute you in this Disney Veterans Day Tribute and every day.
