Serving the Nation, Living the Dream: Military Members at Disneyland Resort

From Service to Storytelling: Veterans Find Their Place at Disneyland

For many, working at Disneyland Resort is a childhood dream. For military service members, that dream becomes reality through dedicated programs like the U.S. Army’s Training with Industry (TWI) and the Department of Defense’s Skillbridge Fellowship.

These initiatives allow current service members and veterans to transition from active duty into magical new roles within The Walt Disney Company. In honor of Veterans and Military Families Month, we highlight five inspiring military professionals who have brought their dedication and discipline to Disneyland.

Dyllan Durham & Nick Nofziger: Training with Industry Fellows

Dyllan Durham and Nick Nofziger, both Staff Sergeants in the U.S. Army, are currently completing fellowships at Disneyland Resort through the Training with Industry program. Dyllan, a Supply Specialist and Music Support Technician, transitioned from the Vermont Army National Guard to active duty in 2023 and now learns from Disneyland’s entertainment production team.

“My goal is to understand how Disneyland achieves such high-quality technical productions and explore how the Army can integrate those practices,” Dyllan said.

Nick, a Public Affairs Mass Communications supervisor, is the first soldier assigned to Disneyland Resort Communications. His decade of service and passion for Disney made the fellowship a natural fit. “To be the best, you have to learn from the best,” Nick shared.

Ariel Pena & Jimmy Chen: Skillbridge Fellows

Through the Skillbridge program, Ariel Pena and Jimmy Chen recently wrapped up internships at Disneyland Resort. Ariel, a Master Sergeant retiring from the U.S. Marine Corps, brought over 20 years of contracting expertise to the company.

“The Veteran community at Disney is incredibly welcoming,” Ariel said. “It’s clear they truly want to support transitioning veterans.”

Jimmy Chen, a newly retired Lieutenant Colonel, served 21 years in the Army. Beginning his career as a Private First Class in the Army Reserve, he rose through the ranks and now steps into his next chapter, combining his leadership skills and love for superheroes in his Disney journey.

Desiree Morales: From Skillbridge to Tomorrowland

Desiree Morales completed her Skillbridge internship in August after six years as a Fuel Systems Journeyman in the U.S. Air Force. She now works full-time as a machinist in Tomorrowland. A lifelong Disney fan, Desiree said, “It was a dream of mine to work for The Walt Disney Company.”

With support from her Disney mentors, Desiree successfully transitioned to civilian life and a fulfilling new career. From resume workshops to mock interviews, her path was guided every step of the way.

Continuing the Legacy

Walt and Roy Disney both served in World War I, laying the foundation for Disney’s ongoing commitment to supporting service members. Today, programs like Skillbridge and TWI help ensure that legacy continues by offering real career pathways to those who’ve served.

Whether through full-time roles or temporary fellowships, Disneyland Military Cast Members bring dedication, passion, and purpose to the magic we all love. Their service, both to the nation and to Disney guests, is truly inspiring.
