A Galactic Honor for Epcot’s Thrilling Coaster
Cosmic Rewind Thea Award honors continue Disney’s legacy of innovation. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind won the 2024 Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement – Attraction from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA). This international award celebrates excellence in themed entertainment and highlights the attraction’s innovation and immersive storytelling.
A Tribute to Imagineering Innovation
“On behalf of all Imagineers, I would like to thank TEA for this tremendous recognition of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and for continuing to drive the themed entertainment industry forward,” said Barbara Bouza, president of Walt Disney Imagineering. She added that being honored by peers worldwide makes the recognition even more meaningful.
Cosmic Rewind is more than a thrill ride. It marks a major advancement in ride technology and narrative design. With its debut, Epcot introduced the Disney Omnicoaster ride system. This technology uses controlled vehicle rotation to direct attention toward key story moments. It also features Disney’s first-ever reverse coaster launch.
Epcot’s Bold Transformation
As part of Epcot’s transformation, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind stands out as a major attraction. The ride combines humor, action, and energy in a fully enclosed adventure. Guests join Star-Lord, Groot, and the Guardians on an unforgettable mission through space.
Jeff Vahle, president of Walt Disney World Resort, described the ride as a defining moment for the park: “A highlight of our Epcot transformation, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind combines the Disney hallmark of great storytelling with a ride experience that literally has guests coming back for more.”
