A Holiday Tradition Since 1997

Debuting in 1997, “it’s a small world” Holiday has become a must-do experience for many Disneyland guests. Each year, children of the world wear festive outfits and sing songs of joy, peace, and unity. The attraction blends holiday traditions from around the world in a whimsical way.

Global Greetings and Musical Cheer

As you sail through 10 themed scenes, signs and banners share seasonal greetings in languages like French Canadian, Dutch, Hawaiian, and Asante. The soundtrack mixes the Sherman Brothers’ classic tune with holiday favorites such as “Jingle Bells” and “Deck the Halls.” In the South Seas scene, mermaids sing a unique version titled “Jingle Shells.”

Lights, Sights, and Seasonal Scents

  • 50,000 lights illuminate the attraction’s facade. Another 350,000 mini-lights sparkle on surrounding trees, hedges, and topiaries.
  • Each night, projection mapping turns the building’s front into a giant animated clockwork show, revealing surprises hidden behind the smiling clock face.
  • Inside, guests experience five distinct scents: cherry blossom in Asia, cinnamon in South America, coconut in the South Seas, and pine and peppermint in the European scenes.

Handcrafted Magic and Cultural Touches

To honor Disney Legend Mary Blair’s artistic style, decorations resemble homemade crafts. In the European section, more than 150 giant candles decorate the trees, creating a warm and festive glow. This nod to Western European traditions mirrors how modern families string lights on their own Christmas trees today.

Behind-the-Scenes Magic

  • A team of two dozen cast members transforms the interior in 18 days.
  • Exterior decorations and lighting take eight weeks to install, often overnight while the attraction operates during the day.

Guests can book a Lightning Lane arrival through Disney Genie+ for faster access to this festive favorite.

Don’t miss your chance to experience the magic of “it’s a small world” Holiday—a Disneyland tradition that brings light, music, and unity to guests of all ages.
