This week, Disney honored more than 700 families of fallen military heroes to Walt Disney World for the annual Gary Sinise Foundation “Snowball Express” event where more than 1,800 children and surviving spouses had the opportunity to bond with the only people who can truly understand their loss: one another. With a long history of supporting the U.S. military community, we proudly welcome families from over 80 cities nationwide and overseas, honoring their sacrifices in service to our country.”

A Sunrise Walk of Gratitude
One of the most emotional moments of this five-day retreat is the sunrise Walk of Gratitude at Magic Kingdom Park. Over 1,100 Disney VoluntEARS arrived before 5 a.m. to line Main Street, U.S.A. with heartfelt cheers, waving flags and showing their support as families made their way toward Cinderella Castle.

As the morning sun rose on the chilly December day. Families carried scrolls with personal messages written to their fallen loved ones. Upon reaching the Castle, children rang bells—each sound a tribute and connection to the parent they lost. The scrolls were placed in a magical cauldron. Then with a little Disney magic, were sent skyward in a symbolic moment of remembrance.

A Message of Unity and Healing
Actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise joined the families on stage alongside Mickey Mouse and members of the Foundation. “While our hearts are heavy at the circumstances that brought these families together,” Sinise said. “I am grateful we can wrap our arms around them, that we can honor them while remembering their loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice.”

Cast Members With a Cause
This year’s event carried personal meaning for Dan Barton, senior manager of Disney financial systems and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. “Support for military families is important for us here at Disney,” Dan shared. “As a Marine veteran, losing a loved one to military-related service hits close to home.”

Expanding the Magic
For the first time, Snowball Express at Disney World included a second week. From December 9–13, honoring more than 350 families of fallen first responders. The extended event highlights Disney’s ongoing commitment to supporting military and service communities, especially during the holidays.
We thank Gary Sinise, his foundation, and every Disney cast member and volunteer who helped create a space of joy, healing, and remembrance.
