Marvel Studios’ Echo Premieres on Disney+ and Hulu

All Five Episodes of Marvel Studios’ Echo Drop January 9

Marvel Studios’ Echo is bringing the heat with a full-series drop on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Premiering exclusively on Disney+ and Hulu, the five-episode series follows Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) as she’s hunted by Wilson Fisk’s criminal empire and forced to confront her roots, family, and legacy in Oklahoma.

Maya Lopez: From Hawkeye to Headliner

First introduced in Hawkeye (2021), Maya Lopez’s journey continues in Echo. Her return home brings an emotional reckoning as she navigates being Deaf, Indigenous, and an amputee. Alaqua Cox connected deeply with the role, sharing during the virtual press conference that both she and Maya are warriors shaped by trauma: “We both have different traumatic experiences. That makes us similar in a way, because we’re both warriors, and we’re both tough, and we’re both badass.”

A Grittier MCU Awaits

Unlike traditional Marvel stories, Echo takes a darker tone intended for mature audiences. Executive Producer and Director Sydney Freeland said, “The goal was never to turn her into Captain America… Marvel told us to lean into Maya’s story post-Hawkeye.” The result is a grounded, personal tale packed with action and emotion.

Wilson Fisk Returns—and He’s Not Done Yet

Vincent D’Onofrio returns as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, who’s far from finished with Maya after their confrontation in Hawkeye. D’Onofrio praised the writing, saying, “It gives me the opportunity to bring the character forward.” He’ll also reprise his role in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series.

A Cast Full of Depth and Family Ties

While laying low at home, Maya reconnects with relatives like her uncle Henry (Chaske Spencer) and cousin Bonnie (Devery Jacobs). Their bond offers insight into who Maya was—and who she could’ve been. “Even though they’re cousins, it’s almost like they’re sisters,” Jacobs shared.

Critics and Co-Stars Praise Alaqua Cox

Cox’s performance has received early praise from castmates. D’Onofrio called her “extremely impressive,” and Spencer added, “Working with Alaqua was phenomenal… The audience is going to be very impressed.”

Get ready to dive into the story of one of Marvel’s most unique antiheroes. All five episodes of Echo premiere January 9 on Disney+ and Hulu.
