Disney Cruise Line has officially revealed new details about “Disney The Tale of Moana,” a groundbreaking stage show coming exclusively to the Walt Disney Theatre aboard the Disney Treasure. Debuting in December 2024, this first-ever stage adaptation of the beloved animated film promises a breathtaking journey across land and sea. Infused with the rich traditions and visual splendor of Pacific Island cultures, the production brings Moana’s story to life like never before.
Towering Puppets and Immersive Set Design
The show opens in modern-day Motunui, featuring a scenic backdrop influenced by Pacific Island heritage. With creative direction by Jeff Conover and legendary puppet designer Michael Curry. Michael kown for his work on Disney’s The Lion King on Broadway. The puppetry in this show is more ambitious than ever. A towering, fiery Te Kā puppet will dominate the stage before transforming into the majestic Te Fiti, mirroring the emotional climax of Moana’s journey.
Music That Moves the Story Forward
Audiences can expect powerful musical moments from the original Grammy Award-winning soundtrack, including favorites like “You’re Welcome,” “We Know the Way,” and “How Far I’ll Go.” Plus, the stage show introduces the new number “Warrior Face,” in which Maui teaches Moana how to harness her courage. It’s the first time this song will appear in a theatrical adaptation, adding a fresh layer to the story.
Characters Come to Life at Epcot
Fans can meet Moana in person at World Nature in Epcot, right across from Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana. This immersive experience further connects the stage show with the overall Disney Parks storytelling universe.

The scene set to “How Far I’ll Go” promises a major visual transformation of The Walt Disney Theatre. As Moana leaves her island to begin her voyage, twinkling stars fill the theater and a glowing manta ray. Gramma Tala’s spirit—soars above the audience. This emotionally charged moment highlights the production’s fusion of cutting-edge effects and heartfelt storytelling.
