The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films has announced that Dave Filoni will receive the prestigious George Pal Memorial Award at the 51st Annual Saturn Awards on February 4, 2024.
Honoring a Visionary in the Star Wars Galaxy
Filoni has shaped the modern Star Wars universe through animation and live-action projects. He created, wrote, and executive produced Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Tales of the Jedi, and The Bad Batch. His storytelling continues to expand the galaxy in bold and exciting directions.
“Dave’s work has transformed the Star Wars franchise,” said Academy President Robert Holguin and Saturn Awards producers Bradley and Kevin Marcus. “His vision and creativity have inspired audiences worldwide. We are proud to recognize his outstanding contributions with this award.”

A Legacy Sparked by George Lucas
George Lucas personally invited Filoni to Lucasfilm in 2005. Filoni helped build the company’s animation division and launched its first series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Since then, he has risen to become a guiding force within Lucasfilm and currently serves as Chief Creative Officer.

Celebrating Wonder with the George Pal Memorial Award
Named after filmmaker George Pal (The Time Machine, War of the Worlds), this award honors creators who elevate science fiction and fantasy with imagination and artistry. The Academy reserves it for visionaries who embody the spirit of wonder. Notably, past honorees include Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
