Marvel Studios kicks off the new year with a fierce new series—Echo. All five episodes premiered January 9 on Disney+ and Hulu, diving deep into Maya Lopez’s story after the explosive events of Hawkeye. As Kingpin’s empire hunts her down, Maya must face her past, her family, and her future.
Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox)
A skilled fighter and fierce antihero, Maya Lopez returns to Oklahoma to confront family and legacy. Alaqua Cox, who is deaf and an amputee, brings authenticity and strength to the role. “Maya is a badass,” says Cox. “I wanted people with disabilities to see themselves in her.” Echo embraces American Sign Language and Choctaw culture, making this a groundbreaking story for Indigenous and Deaf communities in the MCU.
Wilson Fisk / Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio)
Kingpin, once like family to Maya, is back—and seeking revenge. D’Onofrio dives into the emotional complexity of a villain who raised Maya like a daughter, only for her to turn on him. Their relationship adds a powerful dynamic to the series.
Henry “Black Crow” Lopez (Chaske Spencer)
Henry is Maya’s uncle, a former criminal trying to stay clean. He’s torn between loyalty to his family and the shadows of his past. “He’s not ready to face everything Maya brings back,” says Spencer.
Skully (Graham Greene)
A mentor-like figure, Skully owns the local pawn shop and provides support as Maya reconnects with her roots. He repairs her prosthetic and helps mend emotional wounds too.
Chula (Tantoo Cardinal)
Maya’s estranged grandmother, Chula harbors deep pain from past family tragedy. Her relationship with Maya is strained but rooted in love. Cardinal describes Chula as strong yet emotionally conflicted.
Bonnie (Devery Jacobs)
Bonnie is Maya’s childhood best friend and cousin. Now an EMT, she longs to rebuild their bond. “Through Bonnie, we see Maya’s vulnerability,” Jacobs shares.
Biscuits (Cody Lightning)
Maya’s cousin Biscuits adds comic relief and heartfelt moments. He’s goofy, loyal, and always ready to help—even if it leads to trouble.
