Disney Cruise Line has just revealed brand-new island attire for Mickey and Minnie Mouse, custom-designed for their upcoming appearances at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. The stunning new costumes were created by renowned Bahamian designer Theodore Elyett and celebrate the joyful spirit of Junkanoo, the vibrant Bahamian festival filled with music, dance, and color.
Designed with Bahamian Heart
Theodore Elyett’s authentic and colorful touch brings these costumes to life. Known for dressing Miss Universe contestants, celebrities, and government officials, Theodore draws inspiration from his roots in Nassau. Surrounded by art and fashion during childhood, he started designing early. By 1998, the year Disney Cruise Line launched, his first runway show had already debuted.
Now, in 2024, his fashion work takes the spotlight in an exciting new setting.
Junkanoo Fun in the Sun Disney Lookout Cay Costumes
Mickey and Minnie’s outfits showcase the texture, pattern, and brilliant colors of Junkanoo. “The beauty of Mickey and Minnie’s looks is that they are literally ‘Junkanoo Fun in the Sun,’” said Elyett. Their vivid prints and flowing silhouettes radiate Bahamian pride and flair.
Theodore didn’t stop there. He also designed vibrant new outfits for Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Chip, and Dale to wear at Disney Lookout Cay. The result is a colorful fusion of tradition and Disney whimsy.
A Cultural Celebration Awaits
